A BEAUTIFUL VERY LARGE 9CT GOLD ENGRAVED VICTORIAN LOCKET IN A1 CONDITION CIRCA 1880

SUPERSIZED ANTIQUE GOLD LOCKETS LIKE THIS ARE ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND 

DIMENSIONS: HEIGHT = 52 MM (INCLUDING TOP HOLDING RINGS, OVER TWO INCHES HIGH) WIDTH AT WIDEST = 31 MM   DEPTH = 7 MM

Remember 25.4 mm = 1 inch

CONDITION: IT’S IN SUPERB CONDITION THROUGHOUT

THIS IS A VICTORIAN ANTIQUE GOLD LOCKET OF VERY GENEROUS PREPORTIONS, A REAL ‘EYE CATCHING’ ITEM OF ANTIQUE JEWELLERY (See 5 Pence AND dime coin  in inset picture for comparisons).

The front of the locket has an engraved foliate pattern and leaf and flower engraving in diagonal bands. The top blown 'saddle' bail has an aperture of 4.0 mm. The reverse of this super locket has a floral spray to the centre, below this is a vacant flat shield shaped cartouche. This central area is boardered with geometric patterning.

This locket is a mellow rose gold, typical of 9ct jewellery from this Victorian period. This particular locket has no gold markings but we have carefully ‘check tested’ the piece and confirm it is '9ct Gold Back & Front' category. 

(9ct Back & Front is a locket category where the front and back panels are of solid 9ct gold, and check tested here, the internal frame and rims are not gold, nor isthe top bail. This method of construction was used primarily to achieve greater strength and durability of the locket).

Yes, this locket is in excellent condition, no dints, indents, bumps or scratches, indeed no blemishes at all.

 (Pease note that any markings on this locket are due to reflection rather than a blemish or discolouration of the gold/ surface).

It will offer the new owner many more years safeguarding your most treasured keepsake or photographs. The hinge is sound and firm, the locket opens easily and shuts well with a reassuring “click”. Inside the locket has watered silk insets and thick Perspex covers, there is one retaining rim to the right side. The locket is firm to the press being made of a thick gage of gold, there is no buckle effect at all when pressed.
